- Sunday: 9:00am-10:15am & 10:45am-12:00
We start with Psalms 33:3 - “Sing a new song, play skillfully and shout for joy.”
1) Sing a new song: We incorporate new and fresh worship songs in addition to songs that have blessed the body for years.
2) Play skillfully: We are called to be skillful which requires dedication and practice on the part of the worship team.
3) Shout for joy: We worship with a joy that comes from personally knowing Jesus as our Savior.
Then we bookend it with Philippians 2:3 - “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Worship is about serving others rather than bringing attention to one’s self. Serving on the worship team is not an opportunity to impress others, further one’s career or even find a mate, but again, to humbly serve the church body with our gifts, talents and skills in order to draw attention solely to the Lord.
First, there are three “on-ramps” to the Worship Community:
1) Worship Team
2) Worship Choir
3) Sound Ministry
Worship Team. This is the group of musicians that leads the church weekly in worship during weekend services as well as for occasional special events. This group is comprised of instrumentalists (drums, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, keys, loops, and various other instruments for special music) and vocalists (generally soprano, alto and tenor).
Worship Choir. This is a group of singers that will participate with the worship team on occasional weekends and special events.
Sound Ministry. This is a vital area of ministry that is responsible for creating the atmosphere for worship by means of sound reinforcement and audio mixing. Serving in the sound ministry will require experience in live sound and/or studio mixing.
Well, not exactly. First we need to conduct a simple “assessment.” Or to put it another way, you will be asked to participate in an audition.
It’s easy, I promise! It’s a very simple process that takes place between you and the worship leader. There’s no hostile audience or a room full of “Simon Cowells,” but again, just you and the worship leader.
Singers. If you’re a singer, click on the “Audition File” button below, then find the “Singer” section, and choose between “Soprano,” “Alto” or “Tenor.” Then download the chart, the reference mp3 and the audition mp3. The chart is a lead sheet with melody, harmony, rhythm and road map. The reference mp3 has the song with the particular vocal part highlighted, and the audition mp3 has the song without the particular part included so you can get used to singing your part unaided as you will for the audition. You will find that the audition mp3s are around a minute in length at most. That’s all!
Instrumentalists. If you’re an instrumentalist, click on the “Audition File” button, then find the “Instrumentalist” section, and choose between “Drums,” “Electric Guitar,” “Acoustic Guitar,” “Bass Guitar” or “Keyboards.” Then download the chart, the reference mp3 and the audition mp3. The chart is a lead sheet with melody, harmony, rhythm and road map. The reference mp3 has the song with the particular instrument highlighted, and the audition mp3 has the song without the particular instrument included so you can get used to playing your part unaided as you will for the audition. You will find that the audition mp3s are around a minute in length at most. That’s all!
Sound Techs. Your on-ramp will begin with an interview and then an introduction to our sound system in order to begin to better understand your level of experience.
Choir: At this current time the choir is on a sabbatical as the worship team and sound ministry goes through their audition process and transition. Stay tuned!
Other Instrumentalists: If you play another instrument other than the standard worship band compliment, such as a violin, cello, banjo, oboe or others, call or email for your particular audition process.
Perfect! Now click the “Schedule an Audition” button below, and simply sign up for a date and time. We will contact you and confirm that audition time with you and give you any additional information and a location on campus to meet at for that particular time and instrument/voice. Once you’ve auditioned and had a chance to talk with the worship leader, then you’re all done! Within a week we will get back to you in person to share with you where we feel would be the best use of your gifts and talents within the body of Christ. That’s all there is to it! Of course, should you have any questions or concerns, please call us - we’ll help you, go over parts with you, or anything else we can do to assist.
