Blessings, Crossroads family!
Approaching our remembrance and celebration of Christ’s birth always creates a sense of expectation and awe in Harriet and me. The spiritual depth of the season is often overshadowed by the commercial emphasis. So, church life takes on even greater meaning by keeping us focused on the birth of our Savior. My prayer is that these next weeks of worship together will strategically position us to remember and honor our Lord Jesus.
Sunday, I will begin a short series of messages entitled ANNOUNCING: WHAT THE ANGELS SAID TO PREPARE THE WORLD FOR JESUS. The four reference texts from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke have challenged and convicted me about the meaning of this season. I pray these messages will prepare us to love and adore him in a special way this year.
Sunday morning, December 6, 2020, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. What a precious remembrance of Christ are the elements of the bread and the cup. Even more, Communion is our declaration of “… the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). So, this Sunday we’ll acknowledge his first advent and announce his second. What a blessing!
December is also an opportunity to provide encouragement and support to the nearly 4,000 foreign missionaries serving with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Traditionally Southern Baptist has taken the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, named after the long-time missionary to China, in support of international missions. The materials will be available during our times together this month. Please give as you are led.
Please know our love and prayers as we enter this busy season. Give attention to the weekly emails, the church website, and other announcement resources as we share the special opportunities Christmas brings to us.
