Blessings Crossroads family---
Turning the calendar to September 1 earlier this week gave me a jolt. Whether it was a personal news flash that Summer’s end was nearing (September 22, 2020), or a bulletin about the beginning of a really odd school year, or a direct message about the resumption of church life is yet to be seen. We can all agree that this year has been one of abundant uncertainty; without a doubt, the most unpredictable in my lifetime. Even more, that awareness might have been the biblical reminder that with all the change, all the question marks, the bumps, and shifts, we are guided by the constant and unchanging Sovereign God who rules in our human messes. With James, we can rejoice that---"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1: 17, NIV).
Be sure September 13, 2020, is marked in bold print on your personal calendar. This is the day we will implement Phase 3 of our church mission resumption plan. Connection classes and groups are being re-organized and will begin that day, along with many of the other mission and ministry functions of Crossroads Community Church. Somewhere in all the prayerful review and planning is the new normal we’ve all been anticipating since the Covid-19 virus invaded our world. This pandemic still baffles many in the medical community and other professional agencies who help us navigate life. Each of us must pray for wisdom as we make decisions for our families about Phase 3 and participation in our mission partnership. I’m trusting our unchanging God to guide and direct us forward.
That Sunday, September 13, 2020, will also be a time of announced church business. Our Staff, Elders, and Finance Team have evaluated our budget needs for 2021, presented the proposed 2021 budget last Sunday, and will make a motion for its adoption this Sunday. Yes, their work and assumptions are based on previous financial data and estimates about mission in the coming year. I am so thankful for their deliberate and careful preparation. Please join me in prayer that this will be a great day of victory as we anticipate 2021.
There’s another angle in the budget approval process. Our affirmative vote signals support for the 2021 budget. Thus far I have been blessed and encouraged by the strong support of mission in the Crossroads church family. Thank you for enabling witness “… in Jerusalem, and is all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”. 2021 will be a challenging church year. Your bold gifts will continue the mission heart that has define this church for so many years.
