What is VBS?

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a summer discipleship program for kids that explores the awesome power of Jesus and how it changes lives! Through theologically-sound Bible teaching, fun activities, innovative games, energizing music, interactive crafts, and a focus on missions, we introduce the Gospel to new believers and empower mature believers to share the truth of Jesus with others.

This year's VBS Theme, Twists & Turns, reminds us that life is full of twists and turns that can leave us feeling like we’ve taken one step forward and two steps back. That was certainly the case for Peter. But even when Peter messed up, it wasn’t “Game Over.” God still worked through Peter to help others learn about Jesus. Below, you can explore the five encounters that Peter had with Jesus, which we will highlight during this year's VBS. Your kids - and you - will discover that Jesus is holy, trustworthy, forgiving, worth following, and for everyone!

With it's focus on games of all kinds, from classic tabletop games to strategy games to video games and more, kids will play their way through VBS in the Bible Study Game Room, Wild Card Crafts, Multiplayer Missions, and Skip Ahead Snacks!

More importantly, they’ll see Jesus through the eyes of one of His closest friends and discover that trusting Jesus as Savior and following Him changes the game entirely!

Jesus is holy

peter followed jesus

Matt. 4:18-20; Luke 5:1-11

On our first night of VBS, we will meet Jesus and one of his first disciples. Peter, a fisherman, meets Jesus, and sees that he is the Holy Son of God, and is worthy to be followed. To kick of VBS 2023, we will join Peter as we learn that Jesus is holy and that changes everything!

Jesus is Trustworthy

Peter walked to jesus on the water

Matt. 14:22-23

On Night 2 of VBS, Peter learns to trust in Jesus as he reaches out and walks out to him on the water. On the night of the storm in the sea, Peter was scared. But in this story, he reminds us that Jesus is trustworthy even when we doubt!

jesus is forgiving

peter denied jesus and was restored

Luke 22:31-34, 54-62; John 18:15-18; 21:1-19

On Night 3 of VBS, Peter denies Jesus three times on the night he is captured. Though Peter makes a big mistake, Jesus forgives him and even restores him in the end! Peter's denial of Jesus - and later confirmation of Jesus - reminds us that Jesus is forgiving even when I sin!

Jesus is worth following

peter spoke boldly about jesus

Acts 3:1 - 4:24

After Jesus was resurrected, the disciples were called to share the Good News with the world. Peter, who once doubted and later denied, took the Gospel to anyone and everyone, reminding us all that Jesus is worth following even when it gets tough!

jesus is for everyone

peter told cornelius about jesus

Acts 10

On our last night of VBS, Peter shares the Gospel with Cornelius, a Roman guard. Cornelius was an unexpected person to share the Gospel with, but Peter did it because Jesus is for everyone, including me!
